Local computer service cuts rate for Greene County residents February 20, 2009 GREENE COUNTY, OH - As more people find themselves unemployed the need for a properly working computer and printer becomes essential to their job search. Moreover, many schools and colleges now require work that has to be done online so students need the machines to complete educational requirements. But what happens if the home computer breaks or is not performing properly? The average cost of a home computer repair in the Miami Valley is in the neighborhood of $80 per hour plus parts. Besides the expense, a computer left at a local repair shop may not be returned for up to six weeks. The cost may mount up even more if the computer service makes a house call. Many in-home IT services start charging customers from the time they leave their office which can greatly increase the cost of a repair, especially for someone living in Xenia or Medway. In response to the needs of a struggling economy, however, one area business is offering Greene County residents the opportunity to get the technical services they need for half of the cost. Deer Computer Consulting, Ltd., based in Jamestown, is now offering a special rate for in-home technology support services specifically for Greene County residents. Until further notice, Deer Computer’s standard $69.99 per hour service rate has been reduced to just $40 for in-home service within Greene County. Charges do not start until the technician arrives at the site and there are no additional service fees. Some restrictions apply. There is a one-hour minimum charge per incident and home customers are billed by half-hour increments for additional time on the same call. To help keep costs down, Deer Computer Consulting, Ltd. does not accept credit cards. Cash or checks are welcome or customers can prepay for service online by using PayPal. According to the company’s president, Gery L. Deer, “We have been in business for more than a decade and that’s because of the residents of this area so we wanted to try to help them where we could.” Deer started the company in 1998 after more than a dozen years in the IT industry. The firm provides on-site computer support to homes and small businesses for both PC and Apple equipment. “Unlike the big box service companies, Deer Computer is not a marketing arm used to sell you things,” Deer said. “We don’t sell hardware or software, but if you need something we will recommend the best item to fit the need for the best price from a variety of suppliers, even if that happens to be your local discount store.” Deer Computer is also making an effort to offer some relief to some of the hardest hit victims of the current economic catastrophe. “Those workers who were laid off from DHL and GM need a properly working computer to look for a new job or print out resumes,” said Deer. “I know that getting your computer fixed is so not at the top of the priority list but, if you need it, we are offering a special rate of just $20 per hour to Greene County residents who have been laid off from DHL or GM.” Deer added that his company has little overhead and, “we can afford to try to help in our own small way where many other companies cannot.” Also, for a limited time, discounted rates are available for small business customers who either provide discounted rates for Greene County residents or who are members of local community service organizations such as the Xenia Chamber of Commerce. Service rate pricing does not include parts. For more information contact Deer Computer Consulting, Ltd. by calling (937) 902-4857 or go online to www.deercomputerconsulting.com.
